What are the different types of Tires available?
There are many types of tires; the most common for passenger vehicles in Fairfield are radial all-season tires.
How do I choose the right tires for my vehicle in Hamilton?
You start by finding out the size of your tire on the sidewall and the driver's door, then choose a tire rated for passenger vehicles, signified by the P starting the sidewall information.
What do the numbers on the sidewall mean?
The series of numbers and letters on your tire indicate the type of tire and the size. You commonly see a P for passengers, although LT for light trucks is also common. The number next to the P is the tire's width in millimeters. The next two numbers are the aspect ratio of the sidewall height to the width. Next, you'll see an R for radial, the construction used to make the tire. Rarely you'll see D for diagonal or B for belted, but these are specialty tires. Next is the rim size in inches. After that is the load rating; the larger the number (up to 125), the more load the tires can take. Finally, the speed rating is T, which is most common with a speed rating of up to 130 mph. Speed rating can vary from A being the lowest to Y being the highest.
How often should I rotate my tires?
Rotating your tires with every oil change is a good plan.
When Should I replace my tires?
When wearing indicators on your tires to meet the tread, or if there is any significant damage, you should replace your tires.
What are the signs that I need new tires?
Using a penny, place Lincoln's head down in the tread; if you can see the top of his head, you should replace your tires.
How do I check my tire pressure?
Using a tire pressure gauge, press it into your valve stem. The dial or rod will then show you your tire pressure.
What is the difference between run-flat tires and regular tires?
Run-flat tires are designed to travel with zero tire pressure for short periods at slow speed.
What are the benefits of tire balancing and alignment?
Balancing your tires and aligning your wheels keep your tires wearing evenly so you have to replace them less often. It also reduces vibrations, prolonging the life of other parts of your car. Balancing your tires and aligning your wheels also makes for a quieter drive. Balanced tires and aligned wheels also improve handling and fuel economy. All of these combined to make for a safer driving experience.
